Our Team

Norlha’s organisation comprises the board, the senior management team at its headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland. There is also the regional office in Kathmandou , Nepal. They are supported by our volunteers. Find biographies below.

The Board

Norlha President

Peter Taylor was born in London, has a degree in Physics, but has spent his whole career working in finance with KPMG and DuPont, the last 30 years in corporate international taxation. He was a founder member of the USA’s Tax Executives Institute European Chapter and held various positions including Chapter President and Regional Vice-President, helping in making the tax system fairer, workable and more efficient. Peter has a keen interest in the mountains and has been an active member of several climbing clubs for 50 years. He and his wife Jill have travelled in many parts of the world including the Himalayas. He has worked in Norlha’s finance department since 2014. His motto is – do it well, make it fun.

Tm_board_Jyoti-SangheraDr. Jyoti Sanghera

Norlha Vice President

Dr Jyoti Sanghera is currently the Chief of Section on Human Rights and Social and Economic issues at the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in Geneva (OHCHR). Previously she served as the representative of the High Commissioner in Nepal, and before that as the Senior Human Rights Adviser for the Office in Sri Lanka. Jyoti is an expert on the human rights of migrants, women and marginalized groups.

Julien Bettler

Member of the board

Julien Bettler is one of the original founding members of Norlha. From 2009, he led the organisation as Director but in 2017 he stood down to move his family to Kathmandou. He remains as a Board member, using his extensive skill and experience to guide Norlha from his new home. He has extensive knowledge of the Himalayas, his key area of interest for over 15 years.

Member of the board

Thatcher Shellaby joined Norlha as Board member and Treasurer in early 2012 and was elected President in May 2014. A citizen of Switzerland and the USA, Thatcher has been a resident of Suisse Romande since 1980. He has a passion for developing service organisations and draws upon 35 years of international business management and consulting experience. Thatcher has travelled to Nepal three times to meet Norlha’s beneficiaries and witnessed the growing needs within the region.

Member of the board

Nara Luvsan is Senior Programme Officer with UNEPs Regional Office for Europe. She has a strong personal commitment to environmental issues and integrating them into poverty reduction strategies. She has also worked extensively on sustainable development. Her career spans a 20-year period: five with the government of Mongolia in change management and partnership building; 15 years with the World Bank, UNICEF, UNHCR and UNEP in eastern Europe and at headquarters overseeing policy and programme planning, capacity building, partnership building, monitoring and evaluation.

Member of the board

Philip Sargisson is an international consultant who worked with UNHCR for 20 years in various parts of the world. He was also Head of refugee emergencies based in Geneva. For the last 25 years he has been an adviser to multiple governments, NGOs and multilateral organisations, large and small, covering strategic, organizational development and programmatic activities.

Member of the board

Edward Girardet is a Swiss-American editor and journalist who has covered humanitarian, conflict and development issues for more than 30 years. He has worked in Africa, Asia, Europe and Central America. He is currently a co-editor of The Essential Edge, an online global writing magazine and is part-time outside editor of UN Special – The Independent Magazine on International Geneva. He is author of a number of books including: Killing the Cranes – A Reporter’s Journey through three decades of war.

Executive Director

Jeremy joined Norlha at the beginning of 2016. His background is in communications management, working in the not-for-profit sector and as an entrepreneur. He has worked for Barclays Bank, AMEC, IMD, Weber Shandwick and Oak Foundation and was the founder of Le News. Jeremy has a long association with Nepal, India and China having lived in Asia for several years when serving with the Gurkhas.


Dr Tej Hari Ghimire

Head of Regional Mission, Nepal

Dr Ghimire has worked with Norlha since 2012 implementing projects aimed at providing a sustainable way of life and ensuring food security for marginalized communities in the Himalayan region. He started his career as a rural development specialist. He previously worked with the National Cooperative Development Board, with Nepal-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry and spent six years as CEO of the Center for Micro-finance, Nepal (CMF).

Head of Operations

Dr. Slaats has worked successfully as senior project advisor in agricultural and food security for the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) in Laos and Cambodia, and as an expert in agricultural extension, research management and education in various countries in Africa. In addition, he has evaluated and provided support in numerous agricultural development projects and has provided training and consultancy services in project formulation, monitoring and evaluation, capacity building and organizational strengthening.

Qingshun Zou

Qingshun Zou

Head of the Centre
for Women in the Himalayas

Qingshun joined Norlha in September 2017. Previously, she has successfully created and led several companies in Switzerland and China. She worked more than 15 years as a general manager of a Swiss subsidiary of a leading pharmaceutical multinational group. Her extensive personal and professional experience has nurtured her affection for the Himalayan region. She is a mountain lover. Her profound awareness of the harsh conditions of women in the rural Himalayas, persuaded her to channel her energy and skills into the Centre for Women in the Himalayas.

Head of Partnerships

Clare Joyner, Head of Partnerships. Clare joined Norlha in March 2016 after working with a number of other Lausanne based NGOs. Clare spent ten years leading a legal team in a global law firm before moving to Switzerland. She is now committed to using her corporate background to work with suitable partners from all areas with a view to growing Norlha’s, already excellent partnership base and increasing Norlha’s profile across the board for potential partners whether financial or non-financial.

Head of Finance

Gabrielle obtained her Master of Business Administration at the Georgetown University of Washington DC then joined the finance department of Peru’s largest bank. After moving to Switzerland, she worked for a large number of international companies. During her 15 years’ experience as a finance manager, she successfully implemented various project conceptions in complex financial environments.

Head of Human Resources

Vytauté has been involved in people development since 2004. She has a masters in business psychology and a Swiss HR certification. As a trained psychologist with experience in behavioural science, and as an expert in local employment and HR regulation, Vytaute is particularly interested in talent development and identification in the humanitarian sector. She has provided training on psychological work related subjects around the world. She has been invited to speak at universities, specialist training centres, NGOs and governmental organisations such as the European Parliament.

Head of Communications

Heather has worked as a journalist for newspapers, radio and TV in the UK. She started in weekly newspapers and moved into radio in Birmingham before becoming regional journalist and presenter for West Country Television in Cornwall and Devon. She later became a freelance for Sky News and the BBC. She was a newsreader on Radio Four and Five before becoming the BBC transport correspondent in the South East. She moved to France in 2001 and then to Switzerland. In Switzerland she has worked for World Radio Switzerland and as a correspondent for Deutsche Presse Agentur based at the UN in Geneva.

Dr Tej Hari Ghimire

Mr. Durga Datta Regmi

Senior Program Officer, Nepal and Bhutan

Mr. Durga Datta Regmi holds a bachelor’s degree in forestry and a master’s in anthropology. He is a Senior Program Officer for Norlha and an expert in natural resource management and climate change. He has more than 15 years experience in natural resource management, value chain facilitation, livelihoods generation, forest based enterprises development  and project management. He previously worked for GIZ Nepal, Helvetas Nepal, ANSAB, USAID/Nepal’s Education for Income Generation Program and Multi-stakeholders Forestry Program funded by SDC, DFID and Finland.

Tshering Yodin Sherpa

Head of Gender, Kathmandu

Tshering Yodin Sherpa joined Norlha to head up the gender unit in Kathmandu after working as a Senior Programme Officer at Mahila Shakti Bikash Kendra Nepal for a Women Leadership Development Programme. She was responsible for organising and monitoring programmes on the economic, social as well as political aspects of women’s lives in six districts in western Nepal. She has been involved in research for the NEFIN/REDD Climate Change Programme, Women at Work and Women’s Empowerment through Knowledge and skills-based Enterprise Development.


ER Santosh Nepal

DRR Expert

Santosh Nepal is from Palpa in Nepal. He studied civil engineering and completed his bachelor’s degree. He is a reconstruction specialist with more than nine years experience working in project management and implementation for a number of international organisations. He also has extensive knowledge of capacity building of partners and communities and disaster risk reduction. Before joining Norlha, he worked with the Poverty Alleviation Fund (a national project funded by the World Bank and the Nepal Government) as a chief of community infrastructure component.

Menuka Karki

Senior Project Formulation Officer, Kathmandu

Menuka Karki is an expert in environment, health and development economics and is the Senior Project Formulation Officer with Norlha, Kathmandu. She obtained her PhD in Economics from the University of New Mexico and subsequently went on to work as an assistant professor at Louisiana Tech University in the USA. She is now a visiting professor at Kathmandu University. Menuka has extensive experience in quantitative research, data analysis as well as result estimation and has worked as a research assistant and postdoctoral researcher.

Puja Parajuli

Finance Officer, Nepal

Puja Parajuli is from the beautiful city of Pokhara, Nepal. She holds a Masters in Finance and recently qualified for membership of ACCA, the global body of financial accountants. She has more than eight years of experience in the financial management of NGOs. She has worked as the Administration and Finance Officer for Norlha Regional Office in Nepal since 2012.


Parmila Bhattarai

Program Officer

Parmila Bhattarai has been working for Norlha Regional Office Kathmandu as Programme Officer since February 2014. She has more than six years working experience in agriculture development projects based in Kathmandu and outside Kathmandu; western and mid-western region of Nepal. Before joining Norlha she had worked for Centre for Environmental Agricultural Policy Research Extension and Development (CEAPRED)/ USAID funding project as District Coordinator and Volunteers Initiative Nepal (VIN) as Income Generation Program Officer. She holds Bachelor of Science in Agriculture.

Anuja Swar

Finance Officer, Nepal

Anuja Swar is an Administration and Finance Officer for the Norlha Kathmandu team.

She holds a Masters in Business Studies and studied Chartered Accountancy at the Institute of Chartered Accountancy, Nepal.

She has more than 5 years experience of working in finance, in particular in financial accounting, financial management, company compliance reporting, feasibility analysis, taxation, system analysis and project management.
