“ A trilogy for the season”– the final climb of 2017 for Norlha’s ambassador Sophie Lavaud

After her attempt on Kangchenjunga in the spring, Broad Peak this summer, Sophie Lavaud is poised to continue the adventure she has entitled “A trilogy for the season.” She is heading for a third peak this season, Manaslu (8,163m) in Nepal in the Mansiri Himal part of the Himalayan range. It is the eighth highest summit in the world and considered as one of the most dangerous.

This attempt follows her successful ascent of Broad Peak (8,047) which sits on the frontier between Pakistan and China. She reached the top after battling through the night without the aid of oxygen.

By conquering the world’ highest mountains Sophie Lavaud is not only realising her dream but helping women in Nepal realise theirs. The aim of her climbs is to help raise funds for our most recent project – “Mahila” which means woman in Nepali. It supports women adversely affected by the mass phenomenon of men’s migration from rural Rasuwa.
